1980 - Tacoma, Washington
I was a student going to college in Tacoma, Washington back in 1980
and I remember this event very clearly. It was on a spring evening and
I was on campus to visit some friends. I was standing alone out on a
balcony of the dormatory at sunset admiring the peacefulness of the
evening. As I was looking to the north over the city I noticed some
lights in the distance. I immediately thought they were some sort of
aircraft with its landing light on. As I continued to watch the lights
I noticed they were moving toward my location. As the lights approached
I thought they were moving too slow to be a fixed-wing aircraft, so I
immediately thought they were some sort of helicopters approaching. As I
continued to watch the lights approach, I could see at least three
"ships" with multi-colored lights (red, white, and orange/yellow). The
"ships" passed within say a quarter mile of my location and were about
200 feet above the ground. Up until the "ships" passed directly in
front of me I still thought they were helicopters. I waited for the
tell-tale sound of spinning rotor blades, but never heard anything. I
looked hard to see some rotors, or wings, but never saw any.
The next morning I phoned the UFO hot-line in Seattle to report what I
saw. The man on the other end said a lot of people had reported seeing
the "ships" last night.
